Rather than try to combat poverty from the top-down, microenterprise fights poverty from the ground up by working to directly to change the lives of those most affected by poverty.

Introduction

Five Talents is the microfinance development initiative of the worldwide Anglican church. The church provides a ready made infrastructure – a physical presence of people and premises at the heart of even the remotest communities. This makes Five Talents programmes both effective in their ability to reach local communities and highly efficient because set-up costs are negligible.

Five Talents is currently supporting microfinance programmes in 11 countries. Click on the drop down menu above to find details of the country programmes.

The total number of loan clients is now around 36,000, of whom two-thirds are women entrepreneurs.

Each loan reaches more than the individual entrepreneur: including the families of the entrepreneur and the families of their employees - meaning that each loan typically impacts 20 lives. Our target is to reach at least 70,000 loan-clients by the end of 2012, impacting one million people through job creation and family livelihoods.

Our newest project is in Myanmar where we started providing financial literacy training in partnership with the Mother's Union in 2011.
