Welcoming Archbishop Ande to the UK

by Five Talents | Mar 26, 2026

Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming Archbishop Ande from the Democratic Republic of Congo during his visit to the UK – a visit filled with meaningful moments, deep reflection, and inspiring conversations as we met with lots of you.

From preaching at Evensong in Westminster Abbey to spending time with supporters, Archbishop Ande’s visit was a powerful reminder of the global community we are part of. At the heart of his time with us was a shared commitment: partnership.

As we reflected together on the relationship between Five Talents and his diocese, Archbishop Ande spoke movingly about what makes this collaboration so impactful:

“The good thing is that we are partners. Five Talents are not coming with power, we work together… it makes it easier for people to accept teachings and to understand that the world is not only here, (but) there are people out there, and people you have never met can put you in their heart.”

His words capture something essential about how change happens—not through imposition, but through mutual respect, shared learning, and genuine connection.

During his visit, Archbishop Ande and Rachel also met with Alan Smith, First Church Estates Commissioner and a long-standing Five Talents Ambassador. Their conversation highlighted the lasting impact of the organisation and the deep sense of purpose that drives its supporters.

Alan reflected on his journey with Five Talents:

“I support Five Talents because of the hope and communion that it brings, and how it brings people together to transform lives. I have been involved with Five Talents now for almost 17 years and every year I hear a new story which brings hope, because it gives bette outcomes to people who are vulnerable over so many parts of the worls. i cant want anything better than that. five talekts are doing gods work.”

For nearly two decades, Alan has witnessed firsthand the transformation that happens when communities are empowered and connected—stories of resilience, dignity, and hope that continue to inspire year after year.

Archbishop Ande’s visit was more than a series of events—it was a celebration of what can be achieved when people come together across continents, united by faith, compassion, and a shared vision for a better future.
