When devastating floods and landslides struck Rwanda, Therese, a single mother, lost three of her four children and her home. She was also badly injured and spent an extended time in hospital recovering.
During that time, Therese’s savings group became her strength. Members visited her in hospital, stood beside her like family, and drew from their mercy fund to contribute RWF 15,000 (around $12) to support her needs. For Therese, the group’s support went far beyond money — it gave her strength and a sense of family.
Now, Therese has returned to her savings group. At a recent meeting, she opened with a scripture reading from Luke 18, about the persistent widow who kept knocking until the judge responded. “How can God not hear us when we pray day and night?” she asked. “We have a Lord who is capable, and has blessed us with the fruits of the Holy Spirit, so we are capable.”
Therese’s courage and words are a reminder that Five Talents savings groups are not only a source of economic security — they are places where people walk together through tragedy, encourage one another, and rebuild hope.
Be Part of the Change
Therese’s story shows that resilience is found not only in financial stability but in community. When you invest in Five Talents, you are strengthening groups that provide both opportunity and deep support — enabling members to face hardship together and find hope for the future.
